De-dorking Canadian Wireless

If this keeps up I may have to stop being an Ugly American and just get with the program. The state of the Wireless industry in Canada was one the 4756 things that bummed me out when we moved back.

Getting new phones and since I’m in Wtaerloo a CrackBerry was just another step in the relo process but maaan. 2 months in and I’m still roaming on my Verizon plan cause I can’t stand the though of being raped on a monthly basis by Rogers.

Actually – I see enough people with sweet wireless devices and they can’t ALL work at RIM so I’m probably overreacting. But I guess I’m just parallized by the possibility of getting a $1000 bill for data rates, or for cripe’s sake an $85,000 one. I’m the guy that would happen to.

I once got a $2200 local phone bill after configuring my Windows NT dialup server to fail over to a long sdistance number. In NHyou don’t need to dial 1 or even call a different area code for LD charges to kick in. At least they applied the bill to my account and we never had to send a check to Bell Atlantic (at the time) for a good long time.

Back on point – I’m glad we brought the hammer down on these shenanigans.
